For most, the annual family vacation is looked forward to all year long, and what better place to vacate than beautiful and sunny San Diego in Southern California. San Diego has mild weather throughout the entire year and is a fantastic and exciting family vacation destination with a little something for everyone.
Attractions in the city include LegoLand, Sea World, the local beaches, the Zoo and Wild Animal Park, Balboa Park, and tons of fantastic restaurants to indulge your culinary senses. You are close to Mexico for a day trip or mini adventure. All these places have opportunities for your kids to let loose and have fun. There is also the highly recommended Old Town district, the local Mission, Point Loma, and Mission Bay Park. Be sure to include the following attractions in your visit for the perfect vacation:
1.) Sea World. This is one of the largest highlights of San Diego where you can get close encounters with Killer Whales, dolphins, penguins, manatees, and other aquatic wildlife. There are tide pools, hands on exhibits, and other rides your family can enjoy for hours. Purchase your tickets before arriving for the best value.
2.) The Wild Animal Park. Located just 30 minutes north of the City, the Wild Animal Park sprawls across 2,000 acres and animals typically found in the African Region are allowed to roam freely as if you were truly in the African jungles or deserts. The park boasts an impressive lion habitat with lion babies. Be sure to take the entire day to explore this park.
3.) San Diego Zoo. Located in the heart of Balboa Park, the zoo is one of the most famous zoos in the nation. Be sure to ride the double decker bus throughout the park to get an overview first of this large establishment. The zoo has recently added a new monkey and gorilla exhibit as well as a large elephant exhibit which gets you closer to the animals now more than ever.
4.) Whale Sightseeing. There are a number of companies which will take your family out for half a day to go whale watching, with the high season from approximately December to March. The whales migrate through the waters of San Diego and makes a perfect sightseeing spot.
5.) Scripps Birch Aquarium. The Scripps Birch Aquarium is a hidden gem of the County, and has an impressive research facility right there at the aquarium. You can see three different types of sharks, and there is a tide pool for kids of all ages to touch and feel marine life in a more natural setting. You can enjoy sweeping views of the ocean from the aquarium.
6.) Balboa Park. In close proximity to Downtown, Balboa Park is one of the largest parks located within an urban center, and boasts not only the San Diego Zoo, but also 13 museums including the Science Center, Natural History Museum, Museum of Art, and Museum of Aviation. All museums have different attractions throughout the year.
The attractions available throughout San Diego will keep your family entertained for days. You can enjoy as fast paced or relaxing a time as you wish within the County, and you will take back pictures and memories which last forever.
